Very many years ago towards the end of the 17th Century I believe: Jonathan Swift, ( who afterwards became the famous Dean of St Patrick Cathedral Dublin) taught school in the house facing Cornakill school and owned and occupied at present by John Fitzsimons. In those times the pupils used to bring turves to school instead of coal money as they do nowadays.
    The boy who bought the biggest turf would be acclaimed by the teacher the best scholar that day.
    Mr Jonathan Swift sat before the huge fire of turf with a large bowl of punch at his elbow,
