It is said that Lower Moore Street was once an old graveyard. - Many foreign soldiers who worked under the king of England were placed in lands conquered by the English in Ireland. It was in this that Mr. Vandeleur, a Dutchman, came to own half of Clare which consisted mostly of the western portion. He built a beautiful mansion in the wood and another one in Cahercon. His wife and daughters did not think much of the mansion in the wood they called it ''the little house in the bog.''
Mr. Vandeleur was a very lenient and generous man. He did not evict many(continues on next page)
