    Jack went back again but this time he didn't go next or near the farmer's. He was so down-hearted that the little woman never put to him or from him about the cloth, but Jack was guessing that she knew all, for she was even kinder than ever to him. He was only a month back, when she says to him one night, "Jack, I think you should go home and see your mother, so rise early in the morning and be ready to start. Jack only wanted the wind of the word, so he was up brave and early and was ready for the road. The little woman went up to the room, and when she came back what had she but the grandest blackthorn stick you might ask to see. Here now, Jack, says she this is my last gift to you and you needn't hide it from anyone but when you want it to help you, say
