    "Stick, stick do your duty; and you will be sure it will do its work. Jack thanked her and she came to the top of the hill and then stayed till he left her sight. He called at the farmer's house, but this time they put no questions at all to him and even the children let him alone. Jack knew that this was just cleverness of them and his temper was getting the better of him but he waited till they were all in for the night.
    Now, says Jack, when I showed ye what I got before I'll show ye what I got this time, so with that he shouts 'stick, stick do your duty'. The words were hardly out of his mouth when the stick left his hand and started to whack the whole family. The father was the first, but as hard as it fell on him it was
