  1. There was an old school in the townland of Deerpark, Boyle, in the Co of Roscommon. It was an indoor school. The teacher was Mc Donagh he was a native of that place. The people built a house for the teacher to lodge in. The teacher liked English and it was English that was taught. The books that were read were small twopenny books, All the pupils used to bring a penny to the master to pay for his days teaching. There was a blackboard in school. The teacher remained in the district till he died.
