    a beam put across from one wall to the other. Chairs are put on them to tie the cows. The cows are always tied by the neck.
    There is a ring on the stake to which the chain is attached, so that when the cows lie down, the ring goes down, and when they stand up the ring goes up. Sometimes people hang rush-crosses in the cow-house for luck. When people are milking the cows they throw the first few drops on the ground for luck.
