Address:- Lisboney, Nenagh.Barlite is an Irish product somewhat similar to the articles sold in other countries under the name of Bakelite and is a thermo-setting material which has the peculiar effect of becoming quite hard when subjected to intense heat and high pressure simultaneously. There are two kinds of Barlite, Translucent and Opaque.
Translucent is made from a mixture of Urea formaldehyde wood flour and a pigment for colouring, together with some other chemicals which are the trade secret.
Opaque is made from Phenol, Scarab, Formaldehyde slate dust and a pigment for colouring.
The principal ingredients are compounded by large industrial chemists, are then mixed in certain proportions in the Barlite Factory. After being mixed they are put into a pelleting machine which makes the powder into hard pellets of various sizes and the shape of a lozenge.(continues on next page)- Collector
