- Archaeological. 66.The number 13 is still regarded as unlucky in the locality. Thirteen people will not sit down to a table for a meal. The spilling of salt is unlucky at table, and in order to counteract the bad luck, some salt is thrown over the left shoulder by the spiller. The breaking of a looking-glass is also considered unlucky. No baby under 12 mts. is allowed to look into a mirror, as it is considered unlucky. Two people should not wash themselves with the same water, or it will be the cause of a quarrel between them. To find a horse-shoe is considered lucky, and it is brought home and hung over the kitchen door. When people speak about misfortunes which they have managed to avoid up to the present, they touch "wood", so that they may continue so.When giving an ordinary common pin to a person, it is stuck in wood first, so as to avoid a quarrel or "falling out" between them.
