- The Lipreachan was called "Clurirecain or Lurgadan" in this locality. Supposed to be only 1 1/2 inches in height. Always dressed in knee breeches of a green colour with a red cap on his head, and lives in a yard. His usual occupation is mending or making shoes. Sometimes found sittingon a toad stool.
In Ballygraheen, situated oppostite Ballyralish, a man caught a leipreachan one night whilst travelling through the fields. He would not let him go until he promised to show him where his crock of gold was. He brought the man to a certain part of the field and pulled a Boohalaun and gave it to him. He told him to stick it down in a place he showed him, and then told him to come in the morning and dig under it and he would get the gold. The Leipreachan was then let off. When the man came in the morning, the whole field was stuck all over with Boochelauns, so he could find nothing.
They are always looked on as harmless, but will do there best to outwit people if possible.- Informant
