    The shades of the evening were gloomy and gray
    In deep swathes of purple the hills hide away
    The moon veils her silver in gauzes of rain
    And low swelling cadence sweep up from the plain
    With its weird sobbing sadness the woodland throbs o’er
    For the banshee is wailing in sad Curaghmore

    Now forth from the courtyard it comes the last march
    Where dark sweeping branches form many an arch
    See his proud, prancing charger with ears all astrain
    For the voice of his master he lists, but in vain
    He will ride to the call of the bugles no more
    While the Clodagh goes sweeping by fair Curraghmore

    Yet oft when the horn of the hunters shall sound
    When the hounds in full chorus sweep
