(continued from previous page)Thomas Gartlan's our next door neighbour. One day she was sitting spinning when a mare and foal came up to her and started to graze beside her. They were annoying her and she thought of a plan of getting rid of them. She overlooked them until they sank down in the earth. The shape of the mare and foal is still to be seen and the hole is called "Poll a searaigh- Once there lived two old men at Broomfield and they used to sleep on a bed of straw at night. One of them got sick and the other sent for the priest who was Father Eardley. The sick man was a good while ill and Father Eardley used to call at night to see him.
