  1. I saw the following account of the shooting of the Black an Jane in Arva in an old newspaper
At 1.30 pm on Sunday Constables W.M. Shaw and J. Cuthbertson Arva were shot dead at Tyhora & Country Longford.
Another message states that the scene of the shooting is 1 1/2 miles from Arva. The policemen were out walking and were shot dead at a farmhouse. The bodies were removed to the police barracks, and a farmer who lives near the spot was arrested. The great May fair to be held yesterday at Arva was prohibited and the people turned away.
