    Near Derrymore, which is about nine miles north east of Ennis there is a hill called the black hill. At the top of this hill there is a big furrow where a giant was supposed to have stamped his foot against the ground when he was in fit of anger.

    Long ago as the Blessed Virgin and St Joseph were going into Egypt all the plants and trees bowed down before them, except the willow which was too proud to do so. Our Lord rebuked the willow, and all its pride left it and it got humbled and sorrowful and ever since it droops and looks sad. Hence its name is the "Weeping Willow."
