    go around from house to house buying cattle ,the evening before the fair.The people do not go around nowadays .There used be fairs held long ago where they are not now.There used be a fair held in Clonroad. There is a special field for fairs in Ennis and near the public roads "Toll"is paid on cattle that would be
    sold , but in Spancilhill it is paid whether they are sold or not.It is paid to people who have the rights of fairs.Different "tolls"are paid in different places.They generally gave "earnest"long ago,but they do not now except on horses."Toll"is given to pay for the damage done in the The Fair Green. Cattle do damage and toll is paid.
