    2. "Bread ".
The bread of the olden times was made from wheaten flour. The people ground it at home themselves. The "quern stones"were fairly big stones with a hole in the middle of them.We have not any of them at home now. I do not know how it was made. They used to bake the bread on a griddle or and in an oven. The stand they used put under the griddle was called a "brand".They made "sweet cake "long ago on special occasions. The cross or mark that is put on the top of the cake is to prevent the crust from rising off.
