    The seashore teems with life.

    This hand is like a net of fine hairs. It waves about the in the flowing sea water and catches tiny pieces of drifting food. When the tide goes down and the barnacles are left high and dry, the hand is drawn inside. A sliding roof closes over the hole, and the barnacle goes to sleep. To most shellfish ebb tide is what night time is to us. It is the time of silence and sleep. The return of the tide is like sunrise to the shellfish, wakening them to life. Winkles have spiral shells whirled or twisted to a point at the top. Their heads stick out boldly from the front of their shells. They look like the land snail
