- 80 yrs ago people of this district used to make bread out of oaten meal. This bread was black when baked.
The majority of the people baked it on a griddle on a turf fire on the ground. In previous years it was baked between two stones which was hot There were no such things as baking powder bread soda or yeast so the bread bread was very heavy and hard.- Collector
