  1. Long ago the famine effected the district very much this happened in the year 1846-47. The people failed when the blight came on them. The food the people has was boiled turnips and oat-cakes.
    In Spring when they would be ploughing the land they picked the potatoes and broadcasted them like grain.
    Some of the got Government relief.
