The farmers at last resisted and often beat the collectors. They also destroyed at night what was collected during the day.
One day Parson Bourke eviced ten poor families from their homes in the townland of Rathoonagh. At the time the evections were being carried our a man and his little Son from the town of Ballina happened to be coming along the road and saw the women and children badly clothed and crying and being thrown out of their homes. What the small boy saw that day never left his mind until he grew to manhood. Then he began to orgainise the tenant farmers to join the landleague
He also collected large sums of money to aid the evicted and succeeded in having a good many of them reinstated in their homes. This boy's name was Arthur Muffeny. It was remarkable that(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
