“Once upon a time there lived a man who made noggins”
Once there a time there lived a man who made noggins. He lived in a village called Tavanaghmore, which is a mountainous district situated between Foxford and Ballina. It is about two and a half miles South West of Foxford and about two miles North of Pontoon. There were no tinkers that time to make saucepans or anything for the people to drink out of and they had to use noggins, and noggins at that time were very dear and scarce.
One night this man told his people that he was going to the Castlebar market. He got his donkey and creels and he set out very early in the morning with the load of noggins.
