Two boats obeyed the sign. God-fearing men were they. They cut the nets and pulled ashore for the shelter of the bay. No one else obeyed the sign. They left out their nets to catch some fish. The figure sank beneath the water. They said it was the sea-ward going shoal. They tugged furiously at their nets but it was in vain. A storm arose and the boats were sinking with fish. The boats could not bear the heavy sea. When the people got up the next morning to their grief they found that only two boats had arrived home safely with no fish. The people went to these men and asked them what had happened. They told them what they had seen. Next morning seventy corpses were washed in on the shore.
