- The GoatA male goat in Monaghan was never known by the Irish equivalent of 'Puc'. He was invariably known as a 'Buck'.It is well known that a male goat emits a most disagreeable odour which pervades everything that comes even remotely in contact with him. Even the occupants of a farmhouse in the precincts of which a 'Buck' is kept carry about them this most disagreeable odour. Farmers say that this odour is due to a peculiar habit of the animal namely that of eating excrement.
