Funny Stories (ar lean)
“A long time ago it was said that an old man and woman lived happily together in a very small little house.”
(ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)the fairies would come into the kitchen and put on a fire. Then they would dance and sing and have a merry time until the old man would wake up.These fairies seemed to annoy them very much. One night when the dancing and singing seemed to be more annoying than usual, the old man thought of getting up and chasing them. He got out of bed and went into the kitchen to find out what they meant by keeping him awake.Imagine his surprise to find nothing there only the old dog asleep by the fireside. He went back to bed to tell his wife about it, but she was asleep, so he lay down and bothered no more about them. As soon as he was in bed the singing and dancing began again but he dd not get up a second time for he guessed the same thing would happen. All he said was “Go Home” and repeated this until he got tired and fell asleep. The fairies came every night as long as the old man and woman lived. The people used to say that for a long time after, if a person were passing he would hear the fairies dancing and singing and the old man(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
