- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)funeral this money was given to the priest.During this period, in this district the way that coffins were made was this. The boards were nailed together in the shape of a coffin. There was no paint or cloth put on the coffin. It was just left plain. There was a woman who lived in a thatched house in the present cowmarket land in the village of Ballintra. She had a cover for a coffin which was called a “winacloth” . On funeral days she hired this winacloth, to the person wanting it. She charged twopence for this winacloth. When the funeral was over whoever got this “winacloth” returned it to her.
