- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)The snares with which birds (and) are caught are made of horse hair and are chiefly used for trapping snipe. The making of these snares still continues and the rabbits trapped are a source of gain in many districts. As much as 6d or 8d each is received for freshly caught rabbits.Another homemade toy was the "swig". It was made either from a circular piece of tin or wood, about four or six inches in diameter. Through two holes in the centre a cord was drawn and fastened so that the tin or wood could not come off it. Each end of the cord was held by the hands and the cord and tin twirled round speedily. This twisted the cord which was pulled out at each end like a piece of elastic. A humming noise was produced each time this was done. Once it was started the hum could be kept up for any length of time. A large button could be used instead of the tin or wood.
