    of black tea and a piece of oaten bread. They always ate their bread in big farrels (farls) and they got hardly any bread – only the one piece.
    When they had the bread eaten they always ate the crumbs that fell on their laps and those crumbs finished their tea for them. Before they took their tea they always changed their good clothes and they put on pieces of bags round them as working clothes.
    Long ago the people ate three meals a day, their breakfast, their donner, and they took oaten bread and milk and eggs in the evening at about seven or eight o’clock.
    The first thing that they took in the morning before their breakfast, was oaten porridge. Then they took their dinner at about one o’clock, and they mostly always had plenty of fish to eat along with the potatoes. Sometimes the people made bauxty bread. They would get some flour, and they would grate about twelve or thirteen potatoes. Then they would mix the flour and potatoes together in a dish, along with a little butter and some sugar, and stir some milk through it to make it thin, and then
