Buying and selling were not carried on after mass, and it is not carried on now either. Sometimes the people did not give money for goods. Goods were exchanged for work at times. It is not considered unlucky to buy or sell on certain days.
There used to be a market held in Ballyliffen, but it is held in Clonmany now. There used to pedlars at markets. The names of coins are, a (bob) is a shilling, (a tanner) is a sixpence, (a kids eye) is a threepenny bit, (a wing) is a penny, and (a make) is a halfpenny.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
