- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)they are sprayed. Spraying keeps the blight off them. The blight is a spot on the tops of the potatoes, and it makes them wither. Some people spray them twice.
In the Autumn they are dug. Some people dig them with potatoe diggers. Others dig them with spades. To gather the potatoes after a potatoe digger the potatoe pickers go in couples. Every two take a basket between them. Some people plough the potatoes up. It is easier gathering the potatoes when they are dug with a spade.
When the potatoes that are set in ridges begin to come up through the soil they are shoveled. That is to say fresh soil is shoveled on them. Ridges cannot be dug with a potatoe digger. It is usually pitts the potatoes are stored. There is a space made for a pitt and the potatoes are put in this.
