- Any number of boys or girls can play 'rounders'. First, you make three marks called 'decks' about ten yards from one another. You stand on the first 'deck' ready to hit the ball with your fist shut. A boy called a 'bowler' throws a sponge ball gently towards you. Then you try and put the ball as far as you can. While you are running to the other two 'decks' the opposing party runs after the ball. If the other party has the third 'deck' tipped before you reach it you have missed one round, but if you are on the 'deck' in time you have won a round which is counted as 'one'.(John Hanrahan, Aughrim)
