- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)that I could earn a few pence, said Jack. So they made bargain and Jack would give him the goose for the sharpening stone and a dinner. So Jack went off with the sharpening stone until he came to a big deep well and poor Jack had nothing but a few slices of bread, and when he had it eaten he stooped down to get a drink and the sharpening stone fell into the well. Then he went home to his mother but when he came to the place where he first lived he was told that his mother had died of hunger. When he heard this he got sorry for what he had done and he went towards the house where he was born but it was all knocked, and amid the ruins he heard a voice saying "You bold boy Jack, you bold boy Jack", and it kept on repeating that.Jack full of fear saw his mother but immediately she disappeared. Poor Jack burst into a fit of crying and he died in the instant.Got from:- My Uncle Pat, Ballykeerin, Bullaun, age 64.
