About the sixteenth century on the time of the plantation this church yard was occupied by a care taker who collected toll on every burial that took place. It is not known how long this state of things continued, but it is recorded that the people of the whole locality rose in arms against the care taker and his blood hounds, and having surrounded the place the care taker and his blood hounds made their escape in the dark and never returned. St Mogue's abbey is all covered over with ivy. Inside the burial ground there are a couple of vaults which are recognised as the burial grounds for all the chieftans or all our local(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
