- Sir Fredrick Hamilton
The ruins of Sir Fredrick Hamiltons are still to be seen in Cluaínín Uí Ruairc. He was a very bad man. He killed a good many men women and children. The castle was burned during the rebellion of 1641. It was burned on a bright starry night by Muntach MP Shanny and his men. They planned how they would take the castle on the on the banks of the river Owen Mór. Outside the town there is a bray called Sheliamor's. There lived a woman there in Hamilton's time who used to spy on the Catholics. When she would see the catholics coming she would give warning to Sir Fredrick and he would kill them. Sir Fredrick was standing on the top of saddle hill watching his castle burning. He disappeared when his castle was burning.
