- Local marriage customs.
Marriages take place locally before Lent. May is thought to be an unlucky month and Saturdays an unlucky day. Matches are made in the district. Sometimes money is given as dowry. Sometimes stocks or good s are given. Some people remember marriages taking place in the houses. The Bride drives to the Church and there is a feast held in the Bride's house. Straw boys visit some houses. They are dressed in straw hats and false faces and funny kind of clothes. They are welcomed and they sing and dance. Some people have a wedding procession others have a "hauling home." The people accompanied the bride and groom on horse back. The bride sat of the horse with her husband.
