- The worst weeds growing on every farm in this district is the silver-weed, nettles, thistles, colts foot and chick-weed and dock leaf. They grow rapidly and they make the soil poor. The chick-weed grows mostly on good land. The nettle, thistle, dock leaf and slanlus grow on poor land. The slánlus and Saint Patrick's leaf are good for cuts because they heal the cut quickly.
The thistle and the glórán are boiled and then given to pigs. If pigs got glóráns they would never get Distemper. Nettles are boiled and chopped and then they are given to turkeys and young ducks. Night shade is used for poison.
