- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)some close their eyes in sleep,
Some flushed with wine and usquebagh a careless vigil keep.
But, hark! a steady ringing cheer breaks on the midnight air,
Causing the mountain deer to rush affrighted from his lair.
The revellers turn deadly pale - they too have heard the shout
And wonder what it may denote, not long they're left in doubt;
They hear, and not in Saxon tongue, fierce cries and hoarse commands,
Lewd song and jest are quickly bushed, the cups drop from their hands.
A few more daring seize their arms, but seize tham all too late
McRannl's clansmen batter down the massive castle gate,
A moment and the porch is filled with saffron kilted forms,
Wild as the rush of Shannon's flood when tossed by wintery storms,
The charge they make, No mercy there, vengeance alone they breathe(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
