  1. In this district some years ago there was a man selling meal to the poor and was supposed to be selling it at too high of a price. Some men went to threaten him and the Police heard of them and followed them up. The Police caught sight of the men in a Tulrusk bog. The Sergeant of the Police fired on the men and shot one of them. The people gathered to the place and the Police fled to the Barracks. The next day there were about a hundred Police looking for the body of the man that was shot, because if they found the body it would be a large sum of money for them. The men of the district hid the body from the Police. He was hid one place this night and another place the next night. After a week he was brought through the town of Mohill in a cart of clover in the open day light. He was buried in Cloonmorris Graveyard a few miles outside of Mohill.
