   Once upon a time there were two men living beside each other and they were going to a fair. The night before they agreed that whoever should rise first should go to the other's house and call the other man. So one man awoke first and went down to the other's house and went in to call him. When he called the man he enquired of him how his wife and children were, and the man replied that they were all well. He then asked how the young baby was and the man replied again that the baby was all right. And the man who came to call him said that he found his baby child in his bed when he awoke that morning. The other man went down to the room and looked in the bed and saw that his own child was there and came back and said that the other man must be raving. But the other man said no, that the child was there all right and that the thing in the bed was left there by the fairies. At last they decided to drown the child that was left in the bed, so they took it down to the river and threw it in. Immediately it began to swear and curse the both of them in terrible language and swam
