   Roinn Roinn Postáil

   There lived a giant long ago name Monover who came from Norway or Sweden. He came to Ireland, and why he came was this. There lived in his days a famous giant in Ireland called Finn, and Monover had been listening to stories about Finn's greatness for a long time; so at length he set out for Ireland till he should see for himself. He sent word he was coming, and when Finn got the news he was very troubled. He told his wife; she at once thought of a plan.
   There was a large cradle in the house. She put Finn in it. Now, " she said " I'll say you are my son". Soon Monover came. He was very fierce looking and what the Irish called such a person a " Black Stranger ". It was a wild windy day, and Monover made a remark about the windy day and that the wind was blowing on the front door. Finn's wife said " if the men were at home it would not be [?] "They'd lift up the house and turn the back of it to the wind, " said she.
   Without saying a word Monover went out, and [?] the house in his arms lifted it up, and turned the [?] of it to the wind. Monover came in, but the [?] showed him no welcome. He went over to the cradle and said " who is this in the cradle"? my child replied the woman. He put his hand on the child's face
