    This forms a very pleasant drink but opinions differ as to its value. Some claim that it dries the blood in you whilst others assert that its strong ferment has a very beneficial effect on the stomach - something after the nature of yeast which has been boasted so much of recent years.
    The barm is oftentimes known to be kept in a house for over a generation and I have known it to be in a house for over 30 years.
    The seeds are obtained from a neighbour and placed in a large glass jar. Sugar and a teaspoonful of treacle are added and then, after a few days, the plant begins to work, bubbling ascending and descending.
    When working a refreshing drink can be had each day more water then being added.
