    In 1845 a great snowfall occurred in this side of the country. The old people say that it was 42 inches in depth. It snowed for three days and three nights without stopping at all.
    A great number of animals died at that time with hunger and cold and more of them got smothered with it. A woman that was living at that time nearly died with the hunger. She had no provisions inside but by the kind help of the neighbours she lived. When they would bring her some food it is in the window they would give it to her. If they opened the door the snow would be coming in and she could not close the door any more.
