  1. The following story was told to me by my grandmother Mrs. Aherne, Shopkeeper, Ballylongford agd 72.
    A short time ago in this village two men went with their dogs, in search of hares and rabbits. Passing through the field which adjoins Aharallen Churchyard the dogs got out of control, and entered the graveyard. One of the dogs killed a hare, and brought it out in its mouth. The owner of that dog, took the hare from the dog and brought it home.
    After a short time his hand ailed, and although treated by surgeons one of the Dublin hospitals, he returned to his home, incurable, with the result, that his hand actually rotted off his body. Soon after he died.
