- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)writing on it. Butter is made once a week in the Winter when milk is not so plentiful and twice a week in the Summer. My Mother does the churning. Strangers who come in during the churning also take a hand at it as it is considered lucky. The churning takes about an hour, and is done by hand. The milk is kept near the fire for churning to help it to sour off from the cream. When the milk "breaks" the churning can begin. The churn-dash is always moved upwards and downward. It is never given a rolling motion. The butter is made when the dash comes clean + can be seen "gathering" on top.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
