Ar an leathanach seo
- Potatoes are grown on our farm every year to support the household and to help to feed the fowl and pigs. My father generally sows an acre of potatoes every year. Very seldom he sows any less than that amount.
Early in Spring he makes "a join" with one of the neighbours who has another horse and they agree to help each other with the ploughing and harrowing during the ensuing year. They plough the land for each other in turn making it into ridges. While my father is engaged in this work my mother splits the potatoes. She cuts each on into two or three parts leaving an eye in each part so that the stalk will grow out of it.
My father sticks the potatoes with the "stibhín" now, but up to a couple of years ago he always stuck them with the spade. Though the latter method of sowing potatoes is considered by many the better method, the former(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
