- There is a lime-kiln on my father’s farm but it is not in use presently the last time which it was in use being the year we built our present dwelling-house some eighteen years ago. It is now filled in and all that remains of it is a hole in which green grass grows for the farm animalsA lime-kiln is similiar in shape to an egg being wider in the top than in the bottom. Its depth is about twelve feet, its mouth eight and its bottom one. First a fire is lighted in the bottom of the kiln then a layer of lime stone is placed over that over the stones is placed a layer of of column and so on until the kiln is filled. In the bottom of the kiln is a hole called a “Puicin” through which they put the shovel to take out the lime out of the bottom of the kiln which is burned after(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
