- Ploughing & Sticking:- Potatoes are sown in the following way in this locality. The land is ploughed into ridges two feet in width, leaving a furrow a foot wide between two ridges. The potatoes are cut into pieces or "splits" and each of these "splits" has an "eye". Lime is shaken on the "split" before they are put into the earth to prevent their being eaten by slugs. The "sticker" makes a hole with a spade and throws in a "split" and later another person closes the hole with a mallet. Three "splits" are put in the width of the ridge. Between every two rows of "splits" there is a space of about a foot.Next, mould is dug in the furrows with a plough and put up on the ridges. Men(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
