- Shops were not very common in olden times. There were only a few small shops in the district. People had to go to town for the principal goods. Buying and selling was carried on after Mass. This is still practiced. The articles sold by the shopkeepers were needs for the house such as tea, sugar, and clothes.
Money was not always given for the goods. Sometimes labour was given in exchange. Goods were often bartered in the district.
