- Local Fairs
The local fairs are held in Scotstown and Tydavnet. In this district some people come round the houses buying young calves a few days before the fair.
There used to be a fair in Tydavnet about forty years ago but it was discontinued. It was started again about two months ago. It was said that it was the best horse-fair in North Monaghan. There was an Hotel in the town of Tydavnet, where the dealers used to come and stay the night before the fair. Some people were missed after the fair, and never were heard tell of. It is supposed when they went into the Hotel that there was a trap-door at the door as they went in and they would fall down and break their necks. Then the people of the house would go and inform the Police about it, and they would make it out that "he" fell down the stairs. The family which lived in that Hotel did that(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
