   registered according to English laws. Here it is said Dr McMahon Archbishop of Armagh lived for a time. "Garra an Aifrinn" is a small oval feild in a glen over-looking Tenary lake. It was here mass was said for years and it was only once interrupted by Priest hunters.
   A section of the Prodestant population were called Priest hunters. They came from around Monaghan and particularly from Ballybay. Priests were no allowed to say mass, if the were caught in the act of saying mass they would be shot and their heads would be sold for five pounds. Some Prodestants were kind to the priest by giving them shelter.
   There was one family in this district in the townland of Annagoes named the Hamiltons who was very kind to the Priests. In the Penal times this place was only a wilderness of rocks and mountains
   As the story goes when the priest-hunters were out searching for a priest who always said mass at Garra an Aifrinn the Hamiltons who were themselves priest hunters saved the priest from death.
