“Hail dear brute, be still and slumber...”
Poem by John Keegan (Taken down from manuscript) - The first part of poem was torn out and a few words [?] and there were difficult to decipher: C.M.C.Hail dear brute, be still and slumber
Yeos and peelers guard thy bed
Blood - and curses without number
Hover redly round thy head. Sleep my sweet one, dinner's dressing
The best the nation can provide
Splendid houses, coaches, messing,
All by law your well supplied.Think not, mid thy golden dreaming
On the poor man's misery
His wife's shrieks, his children screaming
Or his heart's keen agonyDream not of yeomen rushing
By the Fergus Crimson tide,
Dream not of the life - blood gushing
From the murdered peasant's side.On Archdeacon Whitty think not
Mid thy dreams of glee, and bliss
From just retribution shrink not(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
