- A fairy story.
At one time in Ireland there lived a man and his wife. When they were young they were very holy. One night as they were coming home from confession, they saw a light in their own house, "They man said to his wife, "There are fairies in the house." When they went near it the light out. Both of them were afraid, So they ran up through the bogs. It was about eight o'clock on a winters night. The man fell into the bog-hole the woman screamed and said you old fool what happened to you. Well said the man when I get up I will throw you in. The woman began to throw sods of turf down on top of him to drown him, but she was not able. There was another man coming home from confession heard the screaming and he went down to them. he went into the boghole and pulled the other man out. He was all wet and shivering with the cold. The woman did not like the man to pull her husband out, for she knew he would put throw her in and perhaps drown her. She stood still on the bank for a few minutes.
